Stop Ahmadinejad in Copenhagen!

STOP THE BOMB, December 2009

Rally against Ahmadinejad outside the Danish Parliament during the gala dinner of the Danish Queen

Thursday, December 17th, 6PM: Højbroplads, Copenhagen

A wide coalition of organisations including Stop The Bomb has come together to stage a demonstration outside the Danish Parliament on Thursday evening, and protest the presence of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Copenhagen.

We call upon all of the member states of the United Nations to take its responsibility to continued peace and stability across the world seriously, and stop the Iranian regime from developing Nuclear Weapons. A failure on this front would result in disastrous consequences not only for the Middle East and Israel, whom Ahmadinejad has openly and repeatedly threatened to destroy, but the wider community of nations. We urge the international community to take action and impose immediate crippling sanction against the Iranian Regime to ensure that this preventable catastrophe is not realised. We also call upon the international representatives of the UN climate conference to refuse meeting with Iranian officials as well as staging a walkout during Ahmadinejad’s address to the assembly.

As a diverse and multifaceted group we also stand strongly opposed to the ongoing oppression and curtailment of the Iranian people. The continued execution of members of the gay community, the repression of Women’s rights, and the systematic oppression of all minorities continues to make the Iranian regime a concern of the international community.

This coalition also holds concerns over the Iranian regimes continued unwavering support for terrorist organisation across the Middle East in an attempt to destabilise the region for its own political gain. Iran’s attempt to export its “Islamic revolution” continues to be a major obstacle to peace, security and stability within the Middle East.

Our European history has taught us not to be silent in the face of injustice, or inactive against persecution. For these reasons we stand united and proud against the Iranian President, and call upon all nations to join us.

Join our protests! http://copenhagen.stopthebomb.net/
