AVISO 11 NOV 6:30pm "Does Hair Drive People Crazy? Veiling as a System"
Film & discussion with Fathiyeh Naghibzadeh & Nina Scholz
On Friday, November 11th 2016, 06:30pm, STOP THE BOMB will be hosting the discussion "Does Hair Drive People Crazy? Veiling as a System" at the University of Vienna, NIG, lecture hall III. Fathiyeh Naghibzadeh, an activist of the Mideast Freedom Forum Berlin, and Nina Scholz, a political scientist and author, will discuss the ideology of the misogynistic Iranian regime and the role of veiling as a trademark of Islamism. The speakers will further highlight how women in the "Islamic Republic" have fought back in many ways against the forced veil, while their oppression has been downplayed or culturally relativized in the West. The discussion will be preceded by the screening of "The Liberation Movement of Iranian Women - Year Zero", a short documentary filmed by French feminists about the mass demonstrations against the introduction of forced veiling in Tehran in 1979. The event will be chaired by Mahsa Abdolzadeh, a political scientist and district councilwoman for the Green Party in Vienna.
