Gaza - more than a local conflict

This leaflet was distributed at the demonstration "Solidarity with Israel! Stop the terror of the Hamas", held at 11 January 2009 in Berlin. Please find the speech of Dr. Kazem Moussavi for the STOP THE BOMB coalition here.

The Islamic Republic of Iran bears ultimate responsibility for the current conflict and constitutes a much greater danger by far than does Hamas. Iran's influence on Hamas has been growing intensely in recent years. The terrorist organization is being financed by Iran, supplied with increasingly longer-range rockets by the Islamic Republic, trained in Iranian training camps and supported by Iranian propaganda.

Iran appears to be using this war in Gaza successfully to deflect attention from its pursuit of nuclear weapons – and this is perhaps the greatest danger in the current conflict. Even now, Iran is making every effort to torpedo any possible Israeli-Palestinian settlement. However, the destructive impact of an Iran armed with nuclear weapons on the entire region would be greater by far. For this reason as well, it is imperative that Iranian nuclear weapons be stopped.

The Iranian regime is exploiting the current conflict to take action against critical voices in Iran as supposed “Zionist agents.” Nobel Prize winner and human rights activist Shirin Ebadi is among the victims of the numerous acts of repression committed by the regime recently.

Here in Germany, the numerous threats and attacks against Jewish institutions in recent days have once again made clear that Islamist forces present a danger against which decisive action must be taken. Hezbollah can carry out terrorist attacks in Germany at any time once Teheran gives the signal.

Current international outrage at Israel’s actions lack credibility given that Iran has been arming Hamas and sending rockets of terror against Israel for years under the indifferent eyes of the world at large. The same is now looming over the conflict about the Iranian nuclear program, which is headed for military escalation, while the international community and Germany in particular are passing over those non-military tools that could dissuade Iran from its aggressive course. This is because Germany is still the most important Western trade partner of, and supplier of technology to, the Iranian regime – which is the main sponsor of terror against Israel. This is why Germany is also an actor in the Gaza conflict – on the side of Hamas.

No deals with the Iranian regime!
